Making Ideas Accessible.

Live Broadcast.

With over 5 years of live event broadcast experience, I established and grew the broadcast department for TEDxToront in 2018. The objective was to elevate the quality of TED talk videos, to ensure the ideas conveyed would reach a wider audience and level up to the rising demand for HQ video content. It was my mission to create an exceptional live stream experience for our virtual audience, comparable to the live event experience.

Video Production.

My team was responsible for producing all the video content for our live event and YouTube channel. I created a video content strategy for the live stream experience, ensuring viewers would have a constant stream of value-added content to watch, whilst maximize engagement. We partnered with Sandbox Studio who created some beautiful short-films for us and Bell Media Studio who supported us recording our 2020 TED talks in the studio.

Team Building.

My favourite part is growing and building a team of talented creative thinkers. TEDx attacks some of the most ambitious, thoughtful and diverse humans that are all intrinsically motivated to be part of something bigger. I built a core broadcast team of 6 people, which expanded to 12 people on the event day. They consisted of editors, videographers, photographers, project managers and copywriters. This team has returned every year to be apart of TEDx and I’ve had the pleasure of helping them grow by fostering collaboration by leading from behind.

2019

Live Broadcast

In 2019 my team record and live-streamed the live TED talks at Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto. We did post-production of the recorded talks and content production for the virtual live stream experience. I assembled a team of vendors and support crew to produce the live experience and managed the live stream team.

We cut the show live with 5 camera operators, an audio-technician, a live switcher and a show caller. My team cross-collaborated with the stage production team for lighting, audio freed from speakers microphones, speaker assets and stage-cues.

On even day I called out the run of show for my team, ensured transitions and assets playing as rehearsed and jumped in to switch camera for the live cut. During the break, I checked in with my live stream lead to ensure the behind-the-scenes red carpet team were ready to start their live broadcast to the live-stream.

Live Stream
Red Carpet

The objective of creating engaging and interesting content that adds value to our online viewers is to increase view-through and the number of unique views on the live stream.

In previous years we had interviewed speakers after they had come off stage, speed-edited and pushed it to online viewers during the break. This year, I revamped our behind the scenes interviews to be live from a red carpet during the break periods. Something I had been dreaming of doing.

The live interviews were streamed to the virtual audience and screens across the venue for both online and in-person audiences to watch. I built a dedicated team for this segment and engineered a streamlined process of operations. I planned and briefed the team ahead of the event, and appointed a Live Stream Lead to over-see the team on event day whilst I was recording the live event.

Our live-stream viewers increased by 50% and the view-through rate was higher than ever before.
