Real Talk.
The thing I love doing.

Ever since I was a young child, growing up in the theatre, I loved watching rehearsals. They were much more exciting to me than the actual performance. They were a work-in-progress. Things were changing all the time, and problems of all kinds were constantly getting solved in creative ways. I would be watching a scene, and all of a sudden, everything would stop, the director or my mom would walk on stage, make a change, and the entire thing would start from the top. It was a cyclical process. I would sit in the audience full of anticipation watching for every detail, trying to spot problems and figuring out how they would solve them.

The lunch break was my play-time. I was allowed to be loud again and ask my mom all the questions I wasn’t able to during rehearsal when she had to focus. We’d eat lunch in the canteen and chat with the dancers and singers. With the help of chairs and tables, I’d build a makeshift stage, pretend I was the director and get the dancers to reenact a scene of my imagination. This was my happy place.

In many ways, it’s still what I love doing today, collaborating with a collective group of talented people that are engaged and excited to be a part of something larger than themselves. I get to help them bring something to life that was just an idea before.

It’s the work-in-progress with talented individuals that excites me. Working through challenges as a collective to find creative solutions and, above all, empower others to be the best version of themselves.

My joy is bringing enthusiasm and excitement to an idea and then seeing it set into motion with others. That’s my thing.
